Introduction:

Doomsday takes place nearly three decades after a lethal virus called the Reaper nearly wipes out Scotland and causes the rest of the world to wall off the country. When the Reaper begins to emerge in England 25 years later, an elite team and their leader (Rhona Mitra) are sent to the contaminated landscape of Scotland to find a cure. The prologue consists of a brief narrative of the virus and the human lives it has claimed.

The film begins at the English/Scottish border, with the spread of the virus and the containment of the infected. Fences with barbed wired are erected to keep the victims from coming out of their confinement. However, suddenly a soldier misfires and kills one of the victims (take note of the Boston Massacre allusion here). In a moment of uncontrollable rage, the victims rushed the guards. Within moments the guards were overwhelmed and orders were issued to retreat to the main gates and close the wall (constructed similar to Hadrian’s Wall), that is built to contain these victims in the first place. The crowd rushes the main gate as it shuts and one person got a single arm through. Nearby, on the Scotland side of the wall, helicopters are evacuating all non-infected. A woman is showing begging the soldier on the helicopter to take her daughter. The pilot vehemently refuses while the soldier agrees. As the young girl got on the helicopter, mother and daughter said their last good-byes. The girl was handed a piece of paper with her personal information on it. Helicopter takes off as another crowd of infected draws near.
